South Tasmania
This is short 4-day break visiting South Tasmania. Fly into Hobart and explore its surrounds including Ross, the Huon Valley, Freycinet and Port Arthur.

Day 1:Fly into Hobart airport and hire a car. First stop is Hobart (the airport is about a 30 minute drive from the centre of Hobart). Spend the day exploring this beautiful city. Enjoy a walk around the Hobart waterfront and stop for lunch at one of the outstanding seafood restaurants including Fish Frenzy and Mures. If you're lucky enough to have arrived on a Saturday, explore the Salamanca markets. Then take a short drive to the top of Mount Wellington (about 30 minutes) to take in the city and south Tasmania from a birdseye view and enjoy a number of very scenic walks around and top of the mountain. Return to the Hobart waterfront in the evening and check in to the award-winning
Henry Jones Art Hotel.

Day 2:Today explore the beautiful Huon Valley. Drive south towards Huonville (about 1 hour) visiting
wineries
along the way. Head through Geeveston known as the forest town of south Tasmania on your way to the Tahune Airwalk (which is about 20 minutes further). Here enjoy walking amoung the treetops on the 50 metre high airwalk structure, before retreating back to ground level where you can enjoy some more tranquil strolls along the Huon and Picton Rivers. For those who want a bit more adventure there is also the cable hang-gliding ride across the Huon River and through the treetops which offers an adrenaline pumping way of seeing this ancient forest.

Head a 30 minutes further south towards Dover and Hastings to visit the spectacular
Hastings Caves
where you can go on a tour of these majestic dolomite caves and swim in the thermal springs nearby. On the way back to Hobart stop by Huonville and visit some the quaint attractions including the wooden boat building factory and relax with some devonshire tea and scones. Arrive back in Hobart in the evening to enjoy a meal at one the many gourmet restaurants before retiring to bed after a long day.

Day 3:Leave Hobart this morning northward bound for the historic town of Richmond. Richmond is about 25 kilometres from Hobart and is on the "Convict Trail". It is a charming little village surrounded by countryside dotted by boutique wineries (plenty which offer delightful lunches with their locally produced wines). Visit the Richmond Gaol and experience how harsh convict life was, before exploring the rest of this quaint village. Next head on to Port Arthur where you will find the Port Arthur Convict Site. Included in the admission price is the interpretation gallery, a harbour cruise, a guided walking tour, the convict museum, and access to the many restored buildings and beautiful gardens. If you're feeling brave don't miss the Port Arthur Ghost Tour in the evening and hear about (and maybe see!) some of the ghosts that are still regularly seen in the convict site. For a relaxing and comfortable night's accommodation stay at the nearby
Freycinet Lodge.

Day 4: On day 4 wake up to the beautiful Freycinet sunrise and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before heading into the national park for a short walk to the beautiful Wineglass Bay. If it's warm enough, enjoy a refreshing swim in the bay's beautiful clear, azure waters, or just sunbake on the spectacular white sand beach. After exploring the national park, drive back to Hobart stopping along the way to enjoy the scenery and stop at some of the vineyards. Arriving back in Hobart for your flight home.
