Hobart
Hobart is the capital city of Tasmania and one of Australia's oldest cities. It was founded in 1803 initially as a penal colony, however rapidly developed into a major port supporting both fishing and shipbuilding industries.
Today, Hobart has a population of approximately 200,000 and is the largest city in Tasmania. It is the financial and administrative heart of the state, and boasts an eclectic mix of people making this a friendly and cosmopolitan city.

Hobart is a stunningly situated city, located on the banks of the Derwent River and under the towering magnificence of Mount Wellington it is certainly one of Australia's most alluring cities. It also boasts a vibrant cultural scene with a good range of festivals, markets and plays happening throughout the year.

There is a wealth of things to see and do in Hobart. With it's amazing natural beauty one of the easiest ways to enjoy the city is simply to walk around it. The Hobart waterfront is beautiful throughout all parts of the year, and there is a number of good restaurants and shops scattered along it. Battery Point is also worth exploring by foot to see its many quaint historic fisherman's cottages lining the narrow cobblestone streets.

Driving to the top of Mount Wellington is also well worth the effort where you are given a birds-eye view of this beautiful city. It takes about 30 minutes from the city centre, but make sure to take warm clothes as it is often snowing on the top!

Another nice way to see Hobart is on a cruise around the Derwent River. There are a number of cruise operators that include visits to the Cadbury Chocolate Factory, Peppermint Bay and Port Arthur.
