The city of Hobart in Tasmania is the state's capital and has a population of approximately 210,000 people. It is located on the South East coast of Tasmania.
Hobart is situated around a deep harbour and has a stunning natural landscape sitting on the banks of the Derwent River while Mount Wellington towers above. It is still an active port city (linking Antartica to the rest of Australia) and is also a popular stop with a number of large cruise ships known for its cosmopolitan character and historic charm.
There are many things to do in Hobart including visiting the Salamanca Markets (on a Saturday morning), sailing on the Derwent River or driving up Mount Wellington to get a birdseye view of this spectacular harbour city (and if you're feeling adventurous, take a mountain bike tour back down!). Hobart is also close to a lot of other famous wilderness and historic destinations in Tasmania including the Huon Valley and Tahune Forest Airwalk, the Tasman Peninsula and Port Arthur Historic Convict Tour.

Hobart offers a wide range of things to do and see in and around the city. A trip to the Mona Art Gallery via a cruise on the beautiful Derwent River is highly recommended. Likewise an adventurous mountain-bike ride down Mount Wellington followed by a kayak around the docks of Hobart is a great way to spend an afternoon. Hobart also has an abundance of cultural activities including art galleries, concerts and theatres to name just a few.
