Food and Wine

Tasmania boasts some of the best food and wine in Australia. It has many world reknowned wineries scattered across the state owing to the unique climate and its mountainous terrain.... it is ideal for wine-growing! Therefore there are plenty of vineyards to visit to sample and learn about why Tasmanian wines are so good.

The island is also famous for its gourmet food and seafood. Tasmania has always been a premier destination for gourmet food lovers. Largely due to the island's abundance of fresh produce and its ability over the years to attract some of Australia's best chefs, Tasmania is known for its gourmet food australia vacations.




Wineries

There are a multitude of wineries throughout Tasmania and many people visit the island just to see some of them. The two main wine regions of Tasmania are the Tamar Valley in the state's north and the Derwent and Huon Valleys in southern Tasmania.

The Tamar Valley is located just north of Launceston and is well known wine route that meanders around the Tamar River. The Tamar Valley boasts some world-class vineyards including Jansz Vineyard, Pirie Vineyard, Tamar Ridge Vineyard as well as many others. All of these wineries are located on the Tamar valley wine route which can be found below.

The south of Tasmania also has many other excellent vineyards located around the Coal Valley and Huon Valley. Some of these include the Moorilla Estate , Meadowbank Estate , Coal Valley Vineyard as well as many more.

Hobart and Salamanca Market

Hobart and the Salamanca Market offer some more outstanding food and wine options in island's capital city. The Salamanca Market is on every Saturday and is a Tasmanian icon. There are a multitude of stalls ranging from fine Tasmanian cuisine to locally produced arts and crafts.

The Cascade Brewery is also a must do whilst in Hobart. It is Australia's oldest brewery founded in 1824 and produces a world class beer still popular all over Australia.

Fish Frenzy is an excellent little seafood restaurant located on Hobart's waterfront that serves fish fresh off the boat. Mures is also a seafood restaurant on the Hobart waterfront that is literally a Hobart institution having been there for decades and also serving excellent fresh seafood.
