Devonport Tasmania

Travel guide for Devonport and the Spirit of Tasmania Ferry

Devonport Tasmania Map

The city of Devonport Tasmania is the arrival point for the Spirit of Tasmania Ferry. The Spirit of Tasmania travels between Melbourne on the mainland of Australia to Tasmania daily.

Devonport is located at the mouth of the Mersey River and faces out across the Bass Strait, a body of water approximately 250 kilometres wide that separates Tasmania from the mainland of Australia. This means that it often bears the brunt of the wild weather that the Bass Strait is known for.

Devonport is often thought as the gateway to Tasmania as many people drive their cars across from the mainland on the Spirit of Tasmania Ferry. It is a good starting point for your Tasmanian holiday offering a range of accommodation and tours.
